Demibloc barrels, tapered engine-turned rib type Churchill, ejectors, engraved barrel roots, automatic sliding tang saftey with gold inlaid "Safe", double trigger, bearded edge trigger guard, color case hardened base with mid-arch arabesque engraving, pinless sidelocks with present springs, sears, cocking indicators, number 1 engraved with scenes of pheasant, number 2 engraved with scenes of partridge, also on case back and trigger guard, gold inlaid "The Premiere Quality" on case back, grained walnut stock with straight grip, drops, fine chequering, red rubber recoil pad, gold recoil pad engraved with monogram "P", forend with Anson trigger, all parts gold numbered "1" and "2", in a leather double case with trade label and knock-off cartridges. Barrel numbered 1 has apparently been replaced at Churchill, as it is marked with only one London proof after 1954.
In the classic Churchill XXV configuration, which legend has it was created
at a Monte Carlo competition: After the 30" barrel was clogged with snow and damaged by the ensuing shot, the unlucky shooter capped the barrel after 25" and successfully finished the competition with what was then an unusually very short shotgun.
