In 1846/47 Samuel Colt designed his first production-ready revolvers, still with percussion ignition. In 1848 the first factory was built and Colt has been one of the most important manufacturers of revolvers ever since. But it was not until the designs of J.M. Browning (Mod. 1895 and M1911) and Eugene Stoner (M16) that Colt celebrated its greatest commercial successes, becoming one of the standard bearers of the US armed forces. In the meantime, Colt has become a part of the CZ Group.
