The company Franchi S.p.A. goes back to its founder Luigi Franchi, who started his own business as a gun manufacturer in Brescia in 1868. At its peak, S.p.A. L. Franchi also manufactured sidelock shotguns and had them decorated by Italian lace engravers. From the 1950s to the 1970s, a number of these models were produced, such as the in-house Montecarlo variants. At the same time, the company was also a major producer of a variety of hunting and official weapons. Prominently featured in Hollywood films, including the self-loading shotguns. The focus shifted to high volume production. In 1993, the company became part of Beretta Holding S.A. and moved its headquarters to Urbino.
