Freedom Arms Inc. was founded in 1978 by the Americans Richard J. Casull and Wayne Baker. The name goes back to the place Freedom (Wyoming) and at the same time reflects the claim of independence and individuality. Casull became famous above all for the 454 Casull caliber he developed. The cartridge was developed with the goal of surpassing the performance of other cartridges such as the 44 Magnum or 45 Colt. Originally developed as the Wildcat cartridge, it was first introduced commercially by Freedom Arms in 1983 and later adapted by Ruger and other brands. The five-shot single action revolver (Mod. 83) became the flagship of the gunmaker from the USA. A number of other calibers but also systems are built by FA, meanwhile also versions with six-shot barrel.
