The SO series was introduced in 1933 and has represented the top class of Beretta sidelocked shotguns ever since. The title changes between S and SO variants, starting with the S1. A system based on a monobloc in different versions (EL extra lusso or EELL extra extra lusso lusso) that has been continuously developed ever since. A large number of gold medals can be traced back to this model series, the technical features of which have in some cases been geared more or less to sport shooters (e.g. SO3 EL with locks that can be removed by hand). The distinctive silhouette of the action was and still is one of the most recognizable of its kind. Increasingly ornate and sophisticated engravings eventually made the sporting shotgun a sought-after collector's item, while the development of sporting shotguns continued more in the direction of the DT series with boxlock systems.
